As a follow up to the AIG conversation:
If Lee County wants to attract professionals to the area, the school system will need to provide educational opportunities for advanced students.
My husband and I both have advanced degrees. Educational opportunity for our children was the most important factor when chossing where to live. All of my children have benefitted from the AIG program.
A depleted AIG program means that more parents of top students will choose to send their children to private schools. This would negatively impact the Lee County schools in several ways:
-The test scores will go down.
- Professionals relocating from the base realignment will not want to move to Lee County. This means a loss of tax dollars.
- Lower level students would no longer have the top students as role models.
- Parents of top students tend to spend more time volunteering at the schools. The schools would lose out on these precious volunteer hours.
- There would be more of a sense of haves vs have nots. Those with money will be able to afford a better eduction for their children than their less affluent neighbors.
